Private recommendations for tongue tie

Greycat100 · 19/05/2019 12:58

My DD has a tongue tie that I believe is making breastfeeding more difficult than it needs to be. Local BF group won't refer me as I am not in that much pain and baby is gaining weight.

I am getting a second opinion from a lactation consultant next week. I am aware that the NHS waiting list is long so I am looking for private recommendations in the London/Kent area.

Has anyone had this procedure done privately? Could they recommend any practitioners or clinics?

Have you tried the breastfeeding network ?

Rarotonga · 19/05/2019 13:08

Hi OP
Sorry you are experiencing this. I am in one of the Home Counties and accessed a lactation consultant there but went to the London tongue tie clinic for the procedure. I had to be referred for the procedure by my lactation consultant.

They have a clinic at Kings College hospital and one near Croydon, led by a consultant (Mr Patel) and a lactation consultant Katherine Fisher.

They were wonderful.

Hope you get it sorted OP and congratulations on your baby Flowers

I'm a diff area so I can't recommend but I would say get it done ASAP. It's such a quick procedure - injection to numb then scissors to cut if I remember correctly. Good luck

Thanks for your replies.

blamethecat, I will look at the breastfeeding network.

Rarotonga-thanks for letting me know how you got referred and the name of your lactation consultant. Hopefully my lactation consultant can do something similar or I will contact Katherine Fisher. Did having the procedure done make a difference?

Ann Dobson was amazing with me when my little girl had tongue tie. Would definitely recommend. She works out of a clinic in town but will also come to your house. Very lovely lady and yes it made all the difference for us!

It made a massive difference to my ds

Greycat100 · 19/05/2019 19:55

Thanks Summersunshine2, glad it made a difference to your little one.

KTD27 Thanks, I have heard of Ann Dobson, good to know you recommend her.

It made a huge difference, but for us the improvements were gradual rather than an instant fix. Previously I had to express after every feed and top up each feed using a syringe or bottle with expressed milk, which was exhausting!

Smiler88 · 19/05/2019 22:25

Im in a similar area and ann dobson sorted my little boys tongue tie. She was so professional and lovely and on hand afterwards if i had any questions. I would highly recommend!

Julienne Espineli did my daughter's this week (were in South London). We were referred by a private lactation consultant and she was amazing. Her number is +44 7861 065803 (breastfeedingspecialists.vpweb.co.uk/)

I hope you can get your LO the help they need. I know what it's like battling to get help.

I went to Dr Shah in Ashford. He was amazing. I’d really recommend him. Don’t be put off by Ashford, he’s a consultant and I believe also works in London. He was cheap st £320 but worth every penny

Katnisnevergreen · 20/05/2019 07:36

I was referred to the nhs but fell outside their 8 week window Shock so I just booked privately and directly with dr shah myself after he was recommended by the Kent Baby Matters ladies.

Katnisnevergreen · 20/05/2019 07:37

Sorry lack of proof reading... he WASNT cheap at £320 but worth every penny

Mooey89 · 20/05/2019 07:40

My little boys was done by Julie Whitehead (Hampshire). It was 5 years ago so can’t remember exactly how much but don’t think it was that expensive, maybe around £150?
She’s a midwife, lactation consultant, and runs a lot of mum groups round here, id highly recommend her

Mooey89 · 20/05/2019 07:41

Sorry, just saw you wanted London/Kent 🤦‍♀️

Greycat100 · 20/05/2019 11:04

Good luck Greycat100 I hope you get your little one sorted. It made such a difference to mine when we had her done, not just feeding but her personality sweetened right up as she was happy and fed.
Even with the weight gain it is probably worth pursuing as it can affect speech and language and eating solid food in the future

Greycat100 · 22/05/2019 15:29

Thanks Katnisnevergreen

We are central London (E&C area) and second Anne Dobson. She was very professional and has years of experience behind her.

Greycat100 · 23/05/2019 14:00

TheVeryHungryTortois-Thanks for your recommendation.
