EBF periods returned?

My baby is 6 weeks and I’m EBF, I haven’t used any formula. Today I think my period has returned. I thought this was too early? Was anyone BFing and had their period so soon?

Yes... at 6 weeks mine did ☹️ I had two in one month then it went to monthly... and it's heavier than before I had the baby. So gutted.....

Health Visitor said it's uncommon but not unheard of...

How often does your baby feed? Mine was never really a cluster feeder, he just feeds very efficiently every 2/3 hours. Apparently this can play a part in early periods.

A bit later than you, around 13 weeks.

There have been a couple of threads on this in recent months & the only conclusion you can come to is that every woman is different & that there is a wide variation of normal. Anything from 6 weeks postpartum to when breastfeeding stops, which can be after two years or more.

Thank you both for your responses. Sorely disappointed I haven’t had a longer break from them!

It may not be your period. My post partum bleeding had stopped and then came back with my second child at 8 weeks. I was gutted but then disappeared again and didn't return until he was 10 months. In hindsight I think I had just been overdoing it and I wasn't quite healed yet.

Foxmuffin · 29/04/2019 09:29

@NanooCov
Thanks. My bleeding stopped at around two weeks. I did consider it might be.

I EBF both times and my periods came back at 6 weeks with my first and 8 weeks with my second.

I guess we are just unlucky! Sorry Op, it's a bit rubbish isn't it Confused

NickMarlow · 29/04/2019 09:32

Mine came back at 8 weeks with dc1 and 12 weeks with dc2 despite ebf both of them. Not impressed!

bluebluezoo · 29/04/2019 09:36

1st baby came back at exactly 28 days post birth(just as lochia had stopped), and clockwork every 28 days after that.

I ebf until solids at 6m, and carried on bf until 18m. No formula at all.

Countryslices · 29/04/2019 09:52

Mine came at 4 months regular as clockwork (and very heavy, painful and super emotional!) despite EBF a very hungry demanding baby...

Make sure you eat even more and take an iron supplement!

Foxmuffin · 29/04/2019 11:15

Thanks everyone. I think it is my period as it’s pretty heavy and fresh blood.

With a brand new hungry baby this seems a bit cruel Sad

@Countryslices I have been starving! Never considered that might be why. I feel a bit better now. Thank you.

3 months, despite ebf, never even had a bottle of expressed milk. They’ve been every 28 days like clockwork since. They didn’t even come back that early with my first who was ff.
