Hi all, my baby is 3days old. I am breastfeeding and in pain! I'm sore and can't stop crying . I'm now just getting anxious at every feed which is making things worst. The midwife saw me latch and said I'm doing it well and just the damaged nipple that's making me uncomfortable 😣 has anyone else felt this way is it normal.
? Any advise welcome x

I got hydrogel pads too but don't think I used them, another one recommended is Jelonet - which is for burns originally I think - you can get it at some chemists.

I remember I was like this in the early days. Echoing what everyone else has said, lanisoh & support groups. Hes 6 months now and I'm not looking forward to stopping BF, NEVER thought I would ever have said that in the first couple weeks! For me and many mums it does get better but please also remember there is no shame in formula feeding if you need to, fed is best. Good luck OP!

My baby is 6 weeks old and I’m EBF, trust me it does get better. By two weeks you’ll start to see the light at the end of the tunnel, by four I felt totally comfortable. Now I can feed without lathering on nipple cream each time.

I love lansinoh too, I had some upstairs, downstairs and in my changing bag. Used after every feed on both nipples.

Try and relax. Trust your body. Your baby is getting fed and you can do this, don’t let a grotty baby stress you. Crying doesn’t kill anyone. Take your time.

I’ve enjoyed going to breastfeeding groups. They are so supportive.

If you’ve not already be prepared for a terrible night on day 2/3 before your milk comes in. Don’t panic just ride it out.

Good luck.

@lorza03 I was you not too long ago :-( My boy is 18 days old now and all I can tell you from my experience is that it does get better. For a week I had cracked/bleeding/scabby nipples and was crying constantly because it was so hard. Just a short while later my nipples have toughened up and it doesn't hurt anymore. You're both learning and getting used to it and you'll be in your groove in no time at all x
