4 feeds a day and night weaned at 5 months

I was wondering if I should be concerned about the amount my DS is feeding? He is EBF and is just over 5 months. In the last week he has night weaned by himself so has slept around 7-7 every night so hasn't fed at night (he dropped to 1 feed a night at just over 2 months). I'm definitely not complaining as I completely expected to be feeding a night for a few months longer so enjoying the rest. But he also now can easily go more than 4 hours between feeds during the day, even if I offer it more regularly he doesn't seem to have much interest. So usual feeding pattern looks like 7, 11, 3 and before bath at 7. Can he possibly be getting enough from this amount of feeds? He seems happy in himself, very engaged in things and has been tracking the 25th percentile for weight since birth. I have begun a small amount of purée in the last week or so once a day but can't imagine this is making a difference? Just want reassurance really that he is getting enough and that I am providing enough milk?

I am jealous! If his weight gain is ok go with it. You might find he needs more feeds as he gets nearer 6 months.

He has got himself into a Gina F feeding routine!

Thank you for the reassurance and you're right that I need to be every bit ready for it to all change any day! Just looked up the Gina Ford schedule and that is too funny. I guess it really does work for some babies however I've never tried to enforce a routine!!

My DS3 did this! Sadly none of the others though.

If he's tracking well for weight then I'd thank the gods and leave him to it. All I would say is to make sure you're giving puree (or finger food) right after a feed - given that he's only 5 months, on the smaller side and not overly excited about feeding you don't want him to be filling up on solids just yet.

I think as long as he's gaining weight then I wouldn't be worrying. If you're concerned you could start giving him a small bowl of baby porridge in the morning. This might help to make sure he isn't hungry.

Wow I am well jell! My 6mo would feed at similar times during day but then many times per night, twice on a good night. As others have said, tracking the centipede is great, you’ve nothing to worry about.

Enjoy it! But also dont be alarmed if he increases frequency or night feeds again. He has a lot of growth spurts and developmental leaps to get through. Smile

Sounds like heaven!!

My 20 month still feeds about 6-7 times in a 24 hour period (including overnight) and it’s exhausting!!

As long as weight gain is ok, lots of wet and dirty nappies, and your baby is alert and healthy then I would enjoy it whilst it lasts.
