Just finished BF, how long until milk stops?

DS (6months) had last bf 10 days ago. I weaned him over several weeks, one feed at a time as advised by HV.
All went well and DS seems really happy and satisfied with formula.
But now I have achy and lumpy boobs which leak a little and REALLY hurt when DS squashes them .
So, questions:

  1. is this normal?
  2. when will it stop?
  3. any suggestions what I can do in the meantime to ease the aches?

Thanks!

I don't know what is normal but I breastfed DS for 18 months and had to stop suddenly overnight. I had milk for about a week afterwards (I would pump a little to relieve the discomfort)

Not sure what to take for aches and pains. Sorry.

have you pumped at all?

i stopped at 7months over a weekend! we went away and dd was left with mum. the first day i pumped very engorged boobs in the morning and evening, the same the second day, although there was less, then the third day only needed to pump once a day, then never again after that. still had milk for a few weeks, but boobs were never full or painful. maybe try that, reducing the pumping over a few days...

when i stopped i was having the same problem but was worried about pumping as didn't want to increase the milk production again so i used breast shells to take just a little bit out every now again and that made it more comfortable.

Thanks everyone!

I dug out the hand pump last night and it made an immediate difference (Doh!) Was so engorged yesterday could hardly hold DS and this wasn't helped by a full-on kick at bathtime!

Had been scared to pump in case kept milk coming, but will do it when necessary for a few days and see what happens.
