Exclusive breastfeeding - started period after 6.5 weeks???

Hi - I’m breastfeeding exclusively, and I started my period — it’s only been 7 weeks today since I gave birth. Has this happened to anyone else? I thought I had like a year!! 🙄🙄

Happened to my DM, I got about 8 months, it really varies

RebeccaCloud9 · 13/03/2019 19:06

Yep, happened to me with both kids. I was gutted!

RebeccaCloud9 · 13/03/2019 19:07

And I had post partum bleeding for about 6 weeks before that. I used to get so annoyed with people saying how great it was to have nothing for months.

SayNoToCarrots · 13/03/2019 19:11

Me too, both children

pastabest · 13/03/2019 19:15

Yes.

Twice

It's increasingly common because of better diet etc.

Get contraception sorted [glares at DC2]

winecigsandchoc · 13/03/2019 20:01

Yep me too, 6ish weeks with both children, both exclusively breast fed on demand!

randomsabreuse · 13/03/2019 20:05

Yep. Most offended. I'm blaming the bout of bronchiolitis about 4 weeks before AF arrived because he feeds at night way more than my first - and I had 6 months with her, consistently giving me a 6 hour stretch from 6 weeks.

iMatter · 13/03/2019 20:13

Snap!

Ds2 was born when ds1 was almost exactly 12 months....

le42 · 13/03/2019 20:13

Oh thanks ladies... what a bummer! ☹️ Is it to do with how often you feed or unrelated?

OP posts:
Couchpotato3 · 13/03/2019 20:15

Yep, another one here who had about a week off bleeding post birth before AF arrived (and DC2 when DC1 was 11 months.....)

pastabest · 13/03/2019 20:36

It's unrelated.

I sobbed when it came back at 7 weeks with DC1 as I felt I had failed and obviously wasn't feeding her properly.

Which was bollocks because I EBF her to 5 months after that with no issues.

DC2 I was ready for it and they are still EBF (with solids) now at 8 months.

It just means you are healthy and fertile Grin

RogueV · 17/03/2019 16:11

I had a period 35 days after birth after DS then regular 30 odd day cycles even though I was exclusively breastfeeding.

Currently no period yet with DD she is 7.5 weeks!

SparklySneakers · 17/03/2019 20:25

17/18/19 weeks here with exclusively breastfed boob monsters that cluster fed for hours. They never went longer than 3 hours between feeds in that time.
I was rather upset as have endometriosis and my periods got worse after dc. Thanks kids!
Dc3 got fussy at the breast during my period. He settled after the first few months though.
My sympathies Thanks

RandomMess · 17/03/2019 20:26

Yep happened to me I was most unimpressed!

DPotter · 17/03/2019 20:28

No idea if there's much science behind it, but I was told you have to be breast feeding 2 hourly at max to get the 'contraceptive' benefit.........

DPotter · 17/03/2019 20:29

So those mums are are cluster feeding are fine, but lets be honest if your cluster feeding for 3 hrs on the trot, when do you have time for sex....??

Redskyandrainbows67 · 17/03/2019 20:31

It’s unrelated to how often you feed - it’s your hormones that set it

I got mine back about 6-8 weeks postpartum too despite exclusively breastfeeding very often

Baby was the best contraceptive! But bear in mind periods returning doesn’t necessarily mean you are ovulating again

HumpHumpWhale · 17/03/2019 20:34

I thought I'd started my period at 6ish weeks pp but then didn't get another one until about 14 months, so suspect it was just lochia. You might be lucky!

whitehalleve · 17/03/2019 20:46

It happens. I ebf'd and mine came back like clockwork 28 days after giving birth. I was pissed off.

BertieBotts · 17/03/2019 20:51

Sometimes it can be a bit more of lochia and will be a one off. But I do know a few people who have got them back early.

StrumpersPlunkett · 17/03/2019 20:55

I ebf both boys and period returned by my 6 week check with the dr.
I have 2 friends who were pregnant at their 6 week check whilst ebf so I think it is unrelated to bf.

PRoseLegend · 17/03/2019 21:02

@StrumpersPlunkett pregnant at their 6 week check? They must have healed very quickly then.

StrumpersPlunkett · 17/03/2019 21:09

😂I know. Dh and I were aghast as at that point he had had no more than a gentle hug as my tits were leaking and bit too sore!!

le42 · 17/03/2019 22:17

It’s not getting pregnant again that’s the worry it’s just so shitty having periods again 🙄 I’ve also noticed tampons feel super weird (had a c section so not sure why)

OP posts:
wejammin · 17/03/2019 22:23

I thought I had my period at 6 weeks but it's not happened again and I'm now 21 weeks pp so it might be lochia?
