hydrolised formula

I want to try ds on a hydrolysed formula to see if it affects his eczema. I don't want to use soy based formula.

so, can anyone suggest one to use? I have tried searching the net and cant find any names to try...

or perhaps a low lactose formula?
Is omneo one of these? or nan ha?

I think you need to get them prescribed as they arent readily available to buy. (I might be wrong though) I have heard of nutramigen, pepti and neocate but have no experience of any of them

Lower lactase ones are cow and gate comfort, sma LF (lactose free) and I think sma staydown is probably lower lactose too.

ratfly - get an appointment with a paediatric dietitian.

it's usually cows milk protein that's associated with allergies such as eczema, not lactose. So a lactose free or low lactose product would not help.

Hydrolised formulas have the protein component broken down so it becomes easier to digest and less likely to produce an allergic reaction.

But this is something for your doctor/dietitian to sort out.

well I did talk to my doctor, who suggested wysoy. I told him I had reservations about it becasue of the phytoestrogens, and the sugar content, but he just appeared to shrug me off as a neurotic mother..

ratfly i would go back to gp and insist on seeing an allergy specialist.our specialist said that a baby with cows milk intolerance should really be kept away from soya untill 18mths old.How old is your ds??
we currently have neocate for the baby i nanny (she's 6mths) and her older sister is anaphalactic to dairy so we knew we would pretty much have to go down the hydrolysed formula route when baby started reacting to dairy and soya in mums breastmilk.
our gp wasn't much help either and only because we had been there before did we insist on seeing a specialist.it can take time and be frustrating but worth it in the end no-one wants to be putting hydrocortizone on a baby all the time,as it only treats the symptoms not the cause.
i would try your local chemist they should be able to order you a tin if you really can't wait to try a formula but it is expensive.Also nutramigen is foul we tried this and had no luck,neocate was only slightly better but she took it.
