Reflux (we think) - which formula to use?

My 5mo dd has just been diagnosed (via NHS helpline) with reflux. She has slowly diminished what she will take from her bottle to about 2oz during the day, although takes about 10 ounces during the night for some reason.

No other symptoms, and she will still eat fruit purees (just to try and get some liquids into her) but refuses solid foods containing milk. (I was trying to "hide" formula in her soilds)

I am quite shocked that reflux was suggested - she seems fine in herself and is not usually a sicky baby - also this has only happened over the past week (although she has never seemed to be a great fan of milk).

Can anyone help? Would a change in formula help? Currently we are using Cow & Gate premium.

Going to see GP tomorrow to see what she suggests - the NHS helpline doc said there are drugs available to help?

She must be so hungry and dehrydrated - she seems quite constipated. I am so worried!

wait to see what the GP says tomorrow to be honest they can best diagnose and advise, if it is reflux then they may be able to prescribe a fromula or advise on which would be best for her. Different babies suit different things so one mum's solution may not be anothers. If you are worried about her being dehydrated then give her cooled boiled water to try and top up her fluids. The dehydration is a much more pressing matter than the hunger and if she's eating some solids then she will be ok until tomorrow.

Thanks - I am so worried!

She is absolutely fine in herself - smiling away and just acting like normal but I can't get any fluids in her - she is refusing water, water with a little juice, juice on its own etc etc. I will persevere with the fruit puree as it's the only thing she is accepting!!

just a thought but have you changed the teats on her bottles? They may be flowing too fast or more likely too slow for her. DS used to get frustrated that the milk wasn't coming fast enough for him and would give up on the ottles after a sip or two

daisy, no one can diagnose reflux in this way, though it's perfectly reasonable to suggest this as something that might be part of a discussion with your GP.

If your baby is fine and happy, then she is not hugry or dehydrated.

But 12 oz of milk in 24 hours is not a lot, and it would be good for your HV or doc to check things out.

Hope all is well
