My 10 week old son is still feeding every 2-3 hours? Is this normal? He's having 4oz every feed and draining his bottle.

Should I get hungry baby milk? HV said try not to put his oz up yet cos he's still too young for 5oz but he is deffo still hungry after feeds

10 weeks old is a newborn...

How often do you have food or something to drink? I bet you don’t often go more than 3 hours without.

needthisthread · 01/03/2019 11:02

Don't get hungry baby milk. They need more milk not fillers. When baby drains each bottle you add an extra ounce. The amount they drink varies a lot. It's normal to feed every 2-3 hours though. Some babies go 4, some don't. Try 5oz.

SoyDora · 01/03/2019 11:03

Yes every 2-3 hours is completely normal for a 10 week old baby. His stomach is still tiny.

LeFaye · 01/03/2019 11:06

A 10 week old still is a newborn.

Has anyone told you it’s too frequent? It sounds completely normal.

KMoKMo · 01/03/2019 11:08

Normal. As a PP said - think about how often you fancy a snack or a cup of tea in between meals. It’s the same for them except they have a tiny tummy so can’t take a full meal so they need to graze all day.
Speak to your health visitor again if you think he needs more. What’s his weight like?

Samind · 01/03/2019 11:10

Why is she telling you bit to up his ounces? Mines is 11 weeks and takes 6oz at a time every 4 hours. She stayed on 5ounces for about 2.5 weeks. But she won't take anymore than what she wants so some days it's only 4 feeds a day but that's how she is. And babies are all different so don't worry. Follow your gut. I thought when babies drained their bottles constantly it meant they were ready for another ounce. I defnitely could be wrong though Smile

Telling you not to*

GlossyTaco · 01/03/2019 11:11

It's normal. My son fed every 2-3 hours until he was on two meals. It's a myth that a baby should feed every four hours.

Scubalubs87 · 01/03/2019 11:17

At 10 weeks he still is a newborn. Pretty certain my little boy was on 5oz well before 10 weeks and he’s always been on the smaller end of the weight scale - religiously following the 25 centile line. He feeds 3 hourly during the day at 5 months. Offer more milk, rather than use hungry baby milk. My little one always lets us know when he’s enough milk. Never takes more than he needs.

JRMisOdious · 01/03/2019 11:19

Perfectly normal: both of mine fed that frequently until they were on solids.

Lindtnotlint · 01/03/2019 11:25

It’s not “too frequent” but I have no idea why you wouldn’t just also give some more each time. Might not extend the time, but can’t see it would do any harm and it might be nice for the monkey not to be hungry.

SquigglePigs · 01/03/2019 11:29

My 12 week old feeds even more often than that. Except at night it's rare for her to go more than an hour and a half without wanting to feed again. It's just one of those things and different babies have different feeding patterns.

Ploppymoodypants · 01/03/2019 11:32

Yep both mine fed every 2 to 3 hours until over the age of 1 year. 10 weeks old is tiny. My 14 week old is feeding 2 hourly from 6am to 6pm, then cluster feeding until 10pm. Then does a 5 hour stretch at night.
DD1 was formula fed only and fed every 2 hours at 10 weeks and 3 hourly from about 4 months until weaned.

Ploppymoodypants · 01/03/2019 11:34

Oh and yep give him more oz. just don’t push it on him. Then he might go a bit longer if he is full. But 4 hourly is a long time without food. I would struggle to go 4 hours apart from over night!

Kknightxx · 01/03/2019 11:37

My 18 week old is still only having 3/4 oz every 3/4 hours

Samind · 01/03/2019 11:45

Mines takes every 4 hours and believe me I tried everything before the 4 hour point and the amount of formula wasted was crazy!! I learned to relax though as I was comparing her to what kther babies were doing(which is so fucking stupid btw!!!! I know that now). She used to feed every hour then 2 hours an then 3 and now 4. At night she sleeps 7hours without a feed Confused. I'm very much baby led and she's a happy smiley soul. You know your baby OP.

jacksmamx · 01/03/2019 13:48

Will up his oz to 5 and see how we get on.

Sorry guys I'm all new to this he's my first baby and I'm a young mama just trying my hardest. HV said 5oz is too much for him just yet but he's deffo a hungry baby.

Hes weighing fine! Got weighed yesterday actually he's 10 weeks today and he's weighing 12lb13oz.

Thanks for the advice

No need to apologise op.

Whilst the right HV can be very supportive , you know your baby better than anyone else , so please trust your judgement.

Samind · 01/03/2019 17:41

My first baby too and its great cause we learn stuff all the time. Smile This site is great for advice and experiences etc and opinions. Always ask. I'm forever asking people around me questions. It sounds like you're doing a great job! Wee chunk! 😂😂 It's amazing how quickly they grow!
