Before anyone jumps on saying wait until 6 months - I have been advised by a Consultant Paediatrician to wean my baby at 17 weeks.

Right now I’ve got that out of the way...anyone else weaning early and have any advice? I’m starting on root veg as I did with my first - mixing with a little formula initially. When did you introduce porridge/fruit?

Anyone else weaning/weaned early please feel free to share tips.

I weaned my first at 17 weeks a long time ago OP. Once you've done things like root veg, you can combine things and start adding a little of spice if you like. I gave my DS apple a couple of times and then started adding a little cardamom in.

Things like ready break made with formula should be fine too Smile

I’m currently weaning...I’ve tried to stick to veg purées to begin with (mainly as I figured they weren’t as sweet as fruit so wanted him to get used to these tastes first) and introduced Aptamil baby porridge pretty much straight away (mainly chose aptamil because that was the only one my local Sainsbury’s said was ok from 4 months - not sure why the others wouldn’t be)

For the purées, I’ve steamed them and then used some of the cooking water to thin the purée as I figured that’s where some of the nutrients would have gone from the veg- don’t see why you couldn’t use formula instead though

Also now started on fruit purées as well (we’re about 3 weeks in)

When I weaned DD prior to guidelines changing the only things I was told by HV to give were fruit, veg and baby rice, no dairy, no gluten, no meat.
