High palate and feeding issues

Hi everyone,

My 3 month old baby girl has been clicking whilst both breast and bottle feeding as of recently. She has also become very windy. She has always been consistent with weight gain and never lost any birth weight which is great as obviously she is getting enough. I took her to breastfeeding councillor today where they have pointed out she has a high palate which would explain the wind and clicking. I have been referred to a lactaction Consultant and have been shown the flipple technique which I will need to practice. They also aren’t sure if there’s an issue with her tongue, although she was checked for tongue tie at birth, she appears to keep her tongue flat and isn’t able to stick her tongue out properly.

My main questions are;

  1. What will the lactaction Consultant do?
  2. Is it likely I’ll have to give up breastfeeding and switch to bottle feeding and find a longer teat?

TIA

You won't have to give up feeding at all, unless you want to of course Smile

The Lactation Consultant is a woman who has BF and has a professional qualification on BFing Support so will be able to support you, should you wish to continue Smile
