BF help please - throbbing pain in both breasts at all times

I'm BF my second child. He is now just over 3 weeks old and has had the odd bottle of formula each week but other than that is breastfed. I am still in pain though when feeding him! I didn't have any issue like this with my DD who I exclusively BF for almost 6 months.
My son doesn't seem to open his mouth much so I struggle to get him latched on properly. My nipples are not cracked or bleeding though so it we are getting it right eventually! BUT.. I have a throbbing pain in both breasts sort of deep inside if that makes sense which goes on all the time. It is worse in the left breast and worse when I feed. I can't feel any obvious lumps and my breasts aren't particularly engoged. Could this be a blocked duct inside the breast? If so what should I do since I can't feel it to massage it out? I really want to continue BF but I am getting tired of being in pain all the time.

Any advice appreciated...

could it be thrush? don't remember all the signs properly i'm sure somebody on here will. also apparently high caffein levels can cause pain in the breasts, don't know if that's true or some rubbish i've heard. sorry not much help am i?

I don't drink much tea or any coffee, so I don't think it could be high caffeine...

Hi redf, I had mastitis once and it sounds like your symptoms might be similar. Hurts like hell.

Definitely see your gp asap as it's easily fixed with antibiotics which won't hurt the breast milk, from what I remember. Good luck.

Thanks KK and CuriousCat, I think I had best go to my GP, it could be either thrush or mastisis from the sounds of it and I have no idea which. My nipple doesn't seem to have anything on it like described in the article but I'm not a hundred per cent sure! Don't generally study them!!
