6 week old baby ALWAYS hungry

My DS is 6 weeks old and feeds with mam bottles SMA comfort milk. But the older he gets the more he feeds, its starting to get me down a bit. He will have 4 floz and still be hungry and I’ll needs to fill his bottle again, and he’ll have a little bit more then he gets so full he spits up. This is every hour to 2 hours all day and all night. He’s started to guzzle his food he’s so hungry. I asked the HV if I should give hungry baby formula she said it’s not really for young babies and may cause constipation. I don’t want to make him ill but being hungry isn’t nice for him either. Can anyone suggest what I could do for him? Tia

Make him bigger bottles. Try 5floz and if he finishes those, try 6flozs... You can’t overfeed them at this age and you shouldn’t restrict them.

If he’s still spitting up then you could try paced feeding - google it - but IME most babies bring up a bit of milk each day.

If you haven't already look at paced feeding. How is your baby generally? For some babies needing to feed constantly and then being sick is a symptom of reflux. For others it's that their stomach doesn't realise it's full because the feed is going in too fast (just like us, when we are really hungry and we stuff in a meal and end up overfull)

Is there a reason that’s you’ve switched to comfort milk?

LittleMG · 26/12/2018 03:13

Thanks for the replies... switched to comfort milk because he was always grimacing after a bottle pulling his knees up and looking like he was in pain, in all fairness this hasn’t cleared up. Other than this he is very well and really chunking out he wasn’t a big baby to start with. I am starting to feel so tired as it’s every 2hours day and night.

Grimacing after a feed can be totally normal in the first few weeks. Often they are just getting used to having to digest food and poo instead of having all they need just piped in, which is what they were used to in the womb. Some extra winding might help. Have a look on youtube at the Tiger in the Tree Hold Smile

Another thing that could be going on is that’s some babies catch up after birth. So if he was born say on the 50th centile but the 75th is the right one for him, he might just be chunking up till he gets there.

One thing it might be though, and this is why I asked about the comfort milk, is CMPA. One of the symptoms can be overfeeding. Have a read of the article and see if any other symptoms sound familiar Smile

My daughter 13 weeks old .
She is always hungry in spite of having 6-7ounces every 3 hour
My concern is it ok to feed her this much every 3-4 hours as she is to small .
Sometimes she ends up spitting it .
Can anyone help me with this

@Kanzakhan it doesn’t really matter how small she is, she needs roughly 2.5 floz per pound in weight. So if she’s say 11 pounds she needs roughly 27.5 floz a day.

Is she having roughly the right amount and is she following her weight centile?
