Won't drink water

DD is 8 months and thinks water is a game.
HV told me to offer her water when starting to wean at 4.5 months but she refused it everytime. Recently however, as soon as she tastes that I'm giving her water she gets really excited because she's decided that this is a game. She takes the water in her mouth, spits it out and laughs. Everytime.
I've tried every kind of sippy cup, even a sports cap bottle, nothing works. She did take water once when she had a stomach bug, but that was from a normal Dr Brown bottle.
How do I get her to drink water? Should I just give it in normal bottle first or just keep trying with the sippy cup?

Does she have any medical problems? I am assuming yes from early weaning. DD used to drink from a toy teapot in the bath.

No, no medical problems. HV advised early weaning due to her being quite big for her age and she was feeding every 2 hours before weaning.
I don't think DD would do that. If water goes in her mouth it's instantly a game.

How does she react to milk from a sippy cup? Is it actually the water or the cup?

My DS is the same. Just sits there and spits straight back out. Have resorted to sppon feeding water and warming it slightly.

Mine never drank water They hated it and spat it out. I used to put a tiny bit of apple juice in the water and they drank that. I know that giving babies juice these days is frowned upon (my youngest is now 21) but it got fluid into them and my DDs have perfect teeth as grown ups. They also drink water now!

Is she still taking lots of milk? I find that they don't really 'get' drinking water until they start cutting down on their milk and eating more solids, which makes sense as the milk is providing their fluid needs. Just keep offering it and she will drink it when she needs it.

I had similar with DD1. She was taking issue with the receptacle and not the water. As a PP says will she take milk from a cup?

With dd I tried about 10 different cups until we found the one and then she would drink. DD2 I didn't risk it and taught her to drink her cereal milk from the bowl which was obviously fun. She's been drinking out of an open top cup since she was 1. Have you tried a doidy cup?
