What did self weaning look like for your little one?

DS is 9.5 months and breastfed. 3 days per week he has expressed milk in a sippy cup while I'm at work, but isn't great with it. He won't take a long feed from it, but has to be encouraged to have another sip etc. Sometimes he'll have an ounce at a time, on rarer occasions, 2-3 ounces. I'm working on him having a longer drink at a time, but so far, not a lot of progress. He will drink for longer when it's water though.

The last few nights he has been difficult to get to have a bedtime breast feed. Previously he has been fed to sleep and has always preferred boob over cup (as seen above). I'm wondering whether his reticence to feed at night is teething or starting to self wean. I'm hoping just teething rather than weaning because of his dislike for the cup Confused
I had planned to breastfeed morning and night until he self weans, which I always assumed would be 2, 2.5 or 3 as seems common from the reading I have done.

How did self weaning start for your little one?

Thanks Grin

It's a common age for a bf strike. If you read up on how to get around a bf strike, perhaps due to teething as you say, then if you want to continue til 2+ it should work out. Does he have to have the cup of milk or could he just have water and catch up with bf later on? Not so much because of the breast refusal, more that he just doesn't seem to like it.

It would be very, very early to self wean, muchmore likely to be teething. Can you see any teeth coming through?
