Back to breast after bottle?

Hello,

Is it possible to go back to breastfeeding after baby has had a bottle?

Baby was born 7 days ago, exclusively breastfed for 4 days then he stopped latching properly and it became v painful. I switched to formula less than 72 hours ago and this afternoon starting expressing every 2 hours to re-stimulate supply. Is it too late to get him back on the breast? Is there any chance of a successful latch?

I'm going to give it a shot anyway but wondering if anyone has done the same thing with any success?

Any tips?

Thanks

No experience but I’m pretty sure you will be able to restart your supply after such a short gap and it sounds like you’re doing the right thing pumping often. Are you putting the baby to the breast too? Have as much skin to skin as you can and just keep the baby sucking whenever possible.

I found bf very painful for the first 2-3 weeks and it wasn’t because of the latch - it just takes a while for your nipples to get used to it and there can be pain with letdown at first too. If you can get to a bf support group ASAP they can advise on latch/positioning etc.

Yes it's possible. My DS was exclusively bottle fed his first week, I then started pumping, and had him latched on within 2 weeks.
