At what age can they do without BM or formula?

My DD is 10 months and BF. She had a cow's milk allergy so can't have formula and has rejected all the hypo allergenic formulas on the perfectly reasonable grounds that they taste totally foul. When I am at work she takes a bottle of calcium fortified rice milk which clearly states that it must not be used as a formula substitute. She gets BM morning and night and in the day 4 days a week. She eats three good meals a day and drinks water.

I need to go away with work for a week in September so we need to start stopping BF (as sad as that makes me). Does anyone know at what age will she be OK on rice milk and solids alone?

12 months is fine I would think.

sockmonkey · 23/06/2007 15:21

I'm fairly sure it's 12 months too.

TranquilaManana · 23/06/2007 15:21

there you go

Kewcumber · 23/06/2007 15:23

12 months gets my vote too

ArtichokeTagine · 23/06/2007 15:25

thanks for trying Tranquila

12 months then. That sounds good as she is going to be 13 months in Sept. I was just worried that because she can't have dairy in her solids she would need BM for longer to make up the calcium. Has anyone stopped milk at 12 months and yet not introduced real dairy?

I thought you only stopped formula or bm at 12 coz you could substitute with cows milk. Not sure about the age they can go onto rice milk tho sorry.

Would you be able to express and freeze your BM for that week? It'll keep for 3 months in a freezer and you've got plenty of time to build up a supply of 2 feeds a day.

smallone · 23/06/2007 15:33

Sorry thought she was going to be 10mo in sept not 12mo

ArtichokeTagine · 23/06/2007 15:34

Oh dear. I thought that might be the case too.

The travel is going to get more regular so I don't want to be expressing. I had thought about it.

I guess what I need to find out is how much calcium is in 100ml of cows milk and compare it to 100ml of rice milk. I am off to google.
