Is this too much/little for an expressed feed?

I have been expressing a bottle to give to my 4 week old baby girl around 10.30pm. I give around 4oz purely because this is what I tend to get out of one pumping session. I was worried I was giving her too much, only last night she took the whole 4oz and then woke up hungry again 2 hours later. Should I be trying to give more? If so, is it going to harm her? I often think 4oz looks like a lot to fit in her little baby stomach!

There's no real answer to this. Babies have different habits and preferences. But your baby is tiny, and babies often want to feed lots in the evening so a two hour gap between feeds at that time is normal and plenty at that age.

What are you expressing for? Is it just to accustom her to the bottle? If so tbh I'd give the bottle earlier in the day and let her feed to her own satisfaction in the evening/night. Prolactin levels are highest then so those feeds are important for your supply and your baby will be able to get more out than the pump.

I tend to just give what I get out too.

Agree with PP that if you're worried then givibgvit earlier may be a good idea.

4oz is a decent feed tho IME.

Ime my baby takes around 3-5 oz, and this has little correlation with how long he goes between feeds. Dh always does the 10pm feed. Now d's is 6 weeks he is managing around a 5-6 hour stretch from 11pm. Just a week ago he was waking up again at 1 starving. Next week who knows!!!
