Non stop feeding

I am hoping someone out there has some advice on a baby that is continuously feeding at three weeks old. She stays on the breast for hours at a time and is never satisfied. She is putting on weight, healthy but either sleeps for short periods and eats for hours or cries until she is back on the breast. I have tried bottles but she still wants the breast. Help!

Hi. This can be very normal with a breastfed baby. Cluster feeding can occur before a growth spurt: she is increasing your supply. I remember my little one used to start around 4pm and basically feed or cry until around 10pm! Do you have contact with any breastfeeding support? It might be worth just checking little ones latch is good and there’s no tongue tie etc. ‘Kelly Mom’ is a fantastic site with lots of great articles on breastfeeding; I bet there is an article there on cluster feeding which would help. Keep up your fluids and food intake, it’s exhausting. But sounds like you are doing great. Flowers

Yes it's entirely normal. Have a look on kellymom website at cluster feeding. I appreciate it's bloody exhausting though!

Can be normal but also can indicate tongue tie - maybe take her to a clinic to assess? Early on though it is very normal xx

Completely normal. Building supply and also babies breastfeed for much more than just nutrition. At 3 weeks they just want to be close to you and breastfeeding will give them comfort. You're doing an amazing job!

Thank you so much ladies, sometimes you just need to hear its all normal! I will need to just hunker down and make peace with it. Her latch is good and no tongue for so must be cluster feeding. Hoping it won't last too much longer. Xx

Mine was like this. I used to put her in the pram, apply lanolin and take a walk for a bit of a break. She usually had a nap.
