Cold and flu medicine whilst bfeeding

Hi all. My DS (13mo) has given me his horrible cough and cold. He still bfeeds 2x a day for morning and bedtime. Is there anything I can take? I have to get through work tomorrow Sad

You can take paracetamol. I think boots version of lemsip used to not have the decongestant component, so that might be ok.

It's the decongestant that isn't great while bf if I recall.

If you repost this or report it and ask to get it moved to the infant feeding board there are some more expert people around with good links to up to date info.

Hope you feel better soon. I'm stuck with a crap cold too and it's miserable!

We're just moving this over to infant feeding at the OP's request. Flowers

Yes, decongestants are a no no because they can dry up your milk but because you are well established it would probably only cause a dip for a few days. If you look up the breastfeeding and medication factsheet it lists everything that is safe to take.

You might some people along to say that they used decongestant and it didn't affect their supply, but I did before I knew and know it definitely affected my supply Sad I had to power pump and use fenugreek to try to get it back up, but DS was only 5mo and not gaining weight well so you might not be quite as concerned about your supply decreasing.

I used some vapour rub for the first time and found it effective though.,
