Hi all

Looking for some reassurance and advice...

Last week when DD was weighed she had gone from 7lb 15oz to 9lb 7oz. Although she had gained weight the HV said, from looking at her chart she had dropped down on the percentile and I should see the GP. I felt that DD hadn't been feeding as well- not as long on the breast as usual and sometimes crying during feeds. I suspected a bit of reflux as she had also been bringing a bit of milk up more often. She struggles with passing wind and seems to be in a lot of pain when pooing. The GP checked her over and was not concerned as DD is still within the normal range.

This week she has lost weight. She now weighs 9lb 2oz. HV has said not to be concerned but go back to feeding her every 2 hours day and night.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks in advance

Hi @OliviasMama21
I've had the same with my boy, he lost weight twice in a row, struggled to put on weight and later on (3 almost 4 months old) he dropped a percentile and I got worried. Apparently, to keep this a bit short :), he has cmpi and is on prescription formula.
Now at 19 weeks he weighs almost a stone, bounces through his play gym and is hyper active!!
If you feel/ think something is wrong keep on knocking on the doors of your gp and hv! I got told as well he gains a bit but of course it wasn't enough. He's now got plenty of energy to do lots of things for such a little man.

I really hope everything works out for you and your little one :)

It happened to us a few times. Once I suspected dodgy scales as the weight loss was quite significant and I didn't feel there had been any feeding issues. I took the line that DD was generally happy so wasn't concerned.
If baby is mostly content, has regular wet nappies and seems ok in themselves, I wouldn't worry unless weight loss continues.
Around this time they can change growth lines (both of mine did), as they settle into their natural growth pattern (DD was born on the 50th centile and moved down to 9th by 4 months. At age 8 years, she is between 4th-9th so was destined to be small. It's also quite normal for it to seem like they're feeding less, as they get more efficient at getting the milk out. Your boobs may feel less full as they get used to making the right amount, rather than an over-supply.

Thanks everyone.

This week the HV weighed her again and said she had lost another 2oz and was now 9lb. I took her to the GP the next day and she weighed in at 9lb 11oz! So obviously somebody's scales must be wrong... I only hope it's the HV's 🤞🏼.

Anyway, the doctor said she seems to be thriving and doesn't see anything that concerns her but she's booked in to be weighed again in two weeks time.

I think as schooltripwoes said, she is mostly content and is having plenty of wet and dirty nappies so I'm going to try to not get too hung up on her weight.

I am going to go to breastfeeding support group today so they can check that she's feeding ok and then after that I'm going to try to just trust my instincts and not obsess over the scales!!

Thanks again x
