BF and baby’s bowels

Hello all. Currently eBFing DC3, who is 7 weeks. All going well, maintaining 75th centile, healthy happy and beautifully podgy baby.

But..baby only poos every 3-4 days, a single massive mustardy poo necessitating a clean up in the bath. This is fine but the build up to this is an increasingly grumpy and distressed baby.

It goes like this:

Day 1, pooed in the am, happy baby, good routine, will sleep about 5-7 hours at night (yee-hah!)
Day 2, similar, sleeps about 3-5 hours at night, getting a little windy
Day 3, really windy, distressed, pain from wind causing really unsettled feeding and sleeping, might wake on-off all night after 20min naps
Day 4 -eventually gets massive poo out following lots of screaming, suddenly back to happy baby of Day 1

This has repeated over past 3 weeks. The night before is exhausting.

There may be no solution, I realise, but if anyone has any tips or ideas I’d be glad to hear!

Both of my EBF children have gone through a week or two of doing this and it must be around that age as DC2 is only 16 weeks old and it seems a couple of months ago now that it happened.

I think it's just a stage they go through as their bowels mature. DC2 seems to be back to normal now.
