4 week old windy baby

My son is 4 weeks old and has been feeding great on SMA gold, and brings up plenty of wind during a feed. In the last week he had some crying episodes, arching his back etc so we started using infacol which has helped.

However he seems to fart constantly, sometimes these doesn’t bother him but a lot of the time it seems to cause him pain. He’ll wake roaring and stop as soon as he farts. He has no problem with dirty nappies.

I’ve been looking at comfort milks but he’s not constipated, and because he brings up so much wind easily I wouldnt really say he has very bad colic. He just seems to be full of (smelly) wind.

Any advice/suggestions?

We found infacol works. Also try massage. I went to a class but there’s loads of video online : m.youtube.com/watch?v=JQXP5hJjjUU

Another thing that works is to either put baby in a sling or just carry him or her about upright after a feed. Moving helps breakdown the gas.

They can often cry if they have wind at this age. They are still getting used to their bowels moving.

If he has very smelly poos, it might be worth trying the comfort milk just for that Smile
