How much does breastfeeding reduce fertility?

Does anyone know any sources of info on this?

My periods returned 4 months ago and have been regular since. I'm stil bfing 10mo about 6 times in 24 hrs, including twice in the time I would be asleep. I have fertility problems - needed Clomid to ovulate reliably and IUI to actually conceive LO. I don't want to get pregnant yet (but am not bothering with contraception due to this history + sleep deprivation meaning very infrequent sex!) But I'm thinking ahead. Would love another but am worried that I'll have to stop bfing before trying again. Really don't want to stop bfing LO for ages yet (unless he decides he's had enough which seems very unlikely). Also I don't suppose anyone happens to know whether you can take Clomid while bfing?

Any info much appreciated

IME - I have met a number of women who had fertlility treatment first time round and didn't second time - maybe because their bodies had been kick started. I don't know but they became pregnant unexpectedly.

Just make sure that you use contraception if you do not want to get pregnant soon.

Every woman is different but you really need to be breastfeeding at least 2 hourly day and night to have any contraceptive effect.

Don't know about clomid either - can't think that it wouldn't be OK though.

Thanks very much mears, those are really helpful links. Have asked the BFN the question and am encouraged by the Q&A. Thank you!
