Should smokers breast feed?

Am asking question out of nowt but curiosity

OBVIOUSLY if you smoke you should instantly stop and instead spend your time making daisy chains with your kids but really...

I just want to know, if someone smokes is it better to bf or bottle feed?

(oh and i know an extended bfder who is also a smokers and have known several bfders who smoke, so it does happen)

I have wanted to ask this for ages and just want a straight answer, really.

smoking and breastfeeding

The most memorable part is this:

Bottle-fed infants have a much higher incidence of respiratory illnesses than breastfed infants. A bottle-fed baby whose mother or other household members smoke would therefore be at even higher risk of these problems. Dr. Jack Newman states "The risks of not breastfeeding are greater to the baby than the risks of breastfeeding and smoking. The decision is up to the mother and I would encourage her to breastfeed."

I think so on the basis that they will be more prone to chest infections as a result of smoking but will at least get some protection from breastmilk. In terms of exposure to smoke on the skin/hair/clothes bf is surely no different to hugs and cuddles?
