Help! my ds is now biting, is it time to call it a day?

I bfeed my ds (10 mths) in the evening and during the night as he never really did take to formula and is now eating what the family eats during the day. However, since his top two teeth have started to show, I usually get a screaming awakening at night when he has bitten me (usually after I have dozed off!) Its bad enough having to wake up every couple of hours that after the 3rd time I just put him beside me to feed and this is when he bites. Will I be cruel to go cold turkey on him and stop bf. I have 3 other children but they were already going through the night at his age so night feeding was not necessary. I need your advice, how can I put the message across, No biting and ...... no breast!!!

Oh dear, I have had this problem - but much younger, my DD got ten teeth it seems almost overnight but she was six months old. She bit a few times. If you yell they sort of think it's funny and do it again. You have to stop, say no firmly and don't allow him to nurse for a few minutes.

You could stop feeding him during the night -perhaps a non nursing bra so you wake up when he trying to latch would help? - if you want to, hang on a sec, I'll find the link someone sent to me when I had this problem....

I've found biting is a shortish - but unpleasant - phase. As wmmc says, temporary removal from breast is good. You do know about sliding your little finger in the side of the mouth to prise jaws apart?

Thanks for the link, just skimmed through it and it is really helpful. I'm off to bed to catch a few hours before starting the rounds of night feeds, any ideas of how I can get ds to sleep longer at night? ( living in hope!!!) I'm knackered

Temmy - I have no idea, but if you do find out, drop me a line, I'll be the one with matchsticks on my eyelids!
