Switching to formula at 7 months

Hello

Just wondering if anyone could let me know their experience of switching to formula after 6+ months of breastfeeding please? Did baby drink a good amount from the bottle? Did you find it a massive faff? What did you do about night feeds?

I've been toying with switching for a while - I've got nipple damage on one side, baby is biting on and off, he has suspected CMPA so I've been dairy free for nearly 5 months now, he's still up between 2 - 5 times a night which I have to mostly deal with as milk is the only thing that settles him.

He currently has around 3/4 breastfeeds a day and between 2 and 4 at night depending on how well the night is going! He does have a bottle before bed and has down for the last 6 weeks or so, but will only take between 2 and 4oz... if we moved him over to formula gradually would he start to take more at each feed or will we end up doing lots of bottles because he's only taking a small amount each time?

Just looking to hear how the switch has gone for other people really Smile

Ds is 6 months.. We have started formula at middle of day feed and one before bed around 730 he still breastfeeds other times. Had to change middle of day to formula as I'm back at work this week. He takes 200mls each time.. At the 730 one he often then cluster feeds breastfeeding after but I think that's just to settle himself for bed.. Last night he was asleep by 9 slept to 2/3 then fed and slept to 645... That's our best night yet.. Up to a few days ago he was feeding every couple of hours

I switched at 4 months but he'd been having a bottle for his 10/10:30pm feed so was used to the teats.

I did it quite gradually, keeping the morning and evening (7:30pm) feeds breast for a week or so, to ease into the formula feeding/set up and because i wanted to keep the bond.

I did quite a bit of research into formula prep which seemed to me that everyone does it differently. The official advice is to make up fresh for each bottle but when using water from a kettle can take 30 mins to cool to the right temp. My son would never handle waiting that long, so we use the perfect prep machine which makes them in 2 mins when at home and use the instant stuff when out. It seemed to me the quickest and easiest way to do it.

He doesn't have a feed between 10-7am though so I can't help there, but I gather lots use the prep machine for this as well (though the beep is loud!)

Hope that's useful

Thank you all!

Baby does have a bottle before bed and has done for around a month now... but he only has between 3 and 5 oz so I'm worried he won't be getting enough if we try and switch totally.

He's on neocate, which I think is made up slightly differently to other formulas? We have to let the water cool for at least 30 mins before adding the powder, which is why I was worried about night feeds...
