Hi this is my first post so hopefully this is right?!Confused
I was wondering my DD is 7 months old, she is still in the early stages of weaning. She takes 2 small meals a day, but also still take 960 ml of aptimal stage 2 follow on milk per day? Should I have kept her on stage 1 aptimal until she has a more established weaning routine. As the stage 2 container advises 500-600ml of stage 2 milk?!

Unfortunately she has been suffering with constipation(sorry tmi,ha). Im just worried such a high quantity of stage 2 could be effecting her little tummy?
Anyone else had a similar concern? Any help would be amazing x

When I spoke to my hv about formula she told me that stage 1 was basically the same as stage 2 so little point in moving them on.

However it would be worth hearing other opinions.

I moved my DD onto Stage 2 at about 8 months. She is a fairly good eater. Looking at the nutritional information there is very little difference between the two but stage 2 is £2 cheaper in some places so a little bonus.

KathrynOfArrogance · 21/08/2018 22:33

Stage 2 etc are marketed differently which allows them to be put on offers such as "2 for £15", first stage are not

I contacted aptamil about this with dc1 as I was a bit confused, the advice they gave was to start using follow-on milk once dc was on 3 meals a day.

In the end we just used stage 1 milk until a year old and then switched to blue coo. I figured ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’

I think the protein in the milks are from a different source, dc was happy on stage 1 and hv said it was fine to keep using it after 6 months.

Stage 1 milk is fine until they no longer needed.

Stage 2+ milk is a marketing ploy as they can advertise it and put it on offer as it's for 6m+. I was also told that it contains more sugars to lower the cost which isn't ideal but I'm not sure how true this is.

Aw right ok, thank you all so much. First time mummy worry :( she's been on stage 2 for about 4 or 5 days, and been having stomach issues since. Do you think switching straight back to stage 1 would be ok?

So glad I joined mumsnet, it's so nice to get all your advice!Smile
Thank You all for your helpx

Just switch back if you think the new formula is causing the issue.

YerAuntFanny · 21/08/2018 23:09

There was something on Facebook recently about adverse reactions to the "new improved" stage 2 Aptimal.

I'm sure it said it caused stomach problems.

DitchingTheDye · 22/08/2018 14:07

Switch back. The proteins are different and probably other ingredients too. Stage 1 is all you'll ever need.

ThanksItHasPockets · 22/08/2018 18:33

The constipation is probably caused by the higher levels of iron in the stage 2 milk. First milk is all they need until the age of 1.

I have a 8 month old son who is on aptimil humber 1, he is being weaned and has 3 meals a day.
But still drink a 7 ounce bottle after most meals, and is not sleeping long periods at night.
Do people think switching to aptimil 2 would help him sleep better as maybe feel fuller. I am really struggling with lack of sleep.
He was born small and has now caught up to a average weight and had bad reflux which has improved

SlB09 · 20/09/2021 23:15

'stage 2' milk completely unnecessary. Switch back to stage 1 until 12months then can try normal milk and switch if fine.

Fiona, this thread is old. Perhaps start your own as people will then respond to you and not a question from a few years ago.

Hey,

switched over to aptamil stage 2 milk.

since doing so my baby has started to pass a lot of wind and grunting a lot leaving her quite unsettled and distressed at times.

can I just switch back? Has anyone else had anything similar?
