Mix feeding small formula intake

DS has just turned 7 months, over the past 2-3 weeks I've moved from ebf to formula during the day and bf at night with the goal to ending bf over the next few weeks. DS is a bottle refuser, we tried for many weeks, different types etc and on advice of hv now use a sippy cup which he has taken to. However he only drinks a small amount each feed so over the course of a day is only drinking 12-14oz. He doesn't have a feed as such, he will have a few big gulps then sips over the next hour or so until I throw what is left away due to the two hour rule. I offer the milk frequently to try and get him to drink more. This doesn't seem enough intake? He usually has two 15 minute breast feeds at night and sometimes a short third. He doesn't want a bedtime feed at all, maybe half an oz. I'm trying to reduce the amount of time he breast feeds for at night in the hope he will take more formula. Has anyone had success this way? Also he seems constipated some days. Food weaning is going well, mixture of finger foods and purée. But only about 1 pouch a day and some finger food, Should I cut back on food so he ups his milk intake?

BF babies take about a floz ounce an hour, so if he’s used to feeding every couple of hours, he’s likely to only take a couple of ounces. He should get better over time though.

If he was totally ff he’d only need 20 floz a day so I’d say what he’s having plus bfs seems fine.

As for solids, as long as you’re offering milk before solids and not offering solids more than twice a day, you’ll be fine Smile

My advice would be to offer 3 full meals a day. Some babies are not fussed about milk once food is introduced. Obviously they still need 600 ml or so through day. Cutting back on food is a backwards step as it is my reading that your baby is probably not that into milk now good is available. My 7 month old is the same. No interest in milk since food
