EBF baby waking at night but not wanting feed

Wonder if anyone else has experienced this and can tell me what it means?!

I EBF and co sleep with my 5 month DS. Since birth he's never ever slept more than 2/2.5 hours before he wakes up and wants feeding back to sleep. The last few nights he has woken at his usually 3:30am slot so I've latched him on a few times and he'll suck then just pull off, and wriggle around a bit. Next thing I know it's 6am and he wants a feed.

What is this 3:30am wake up about? Is it him dropping a feed but still waking up.. or something else?

Could it be the dip in temperature OP?

That's a genius idea I never thought of that! Thank you

Does he have a dummy or anything? Maybe he's using you as comfort and just needs soothing? Do you think he may be teething? I find that quite often I think my dd is having a phase of neediness and clingy-ness and then a week or so later a tooth pops through

HOw can he be using her for comfort if she’s offeribg him a feed and he’s refusing?
