TMI - formula fed nappies

Hi, I could do with some help, please. DC3 is formula fed, my first on bottles as the other two were breastfed and major bottle refusers. For some reason that's baffled my dr, this time round my milk just didn't come in, so onto bottles we went. Absolutely fine with this and enjoying the relative freedom I've got.

We started off on Aptamil. All fine, poos were speckled yellow. Then the Aptamil recipe change affected my DC - vomiting, irritability, bad wind. We changed to SMA. About to finish our 3rd tin so I think plenty of 'settling in' time has passed. Poos are still a vile khaki green colour and for the second time now, I've found a lump of soft formed poo in their nappy, amongst the looser poo. Sort of play doh or clay consistency.

I went to the GP who shrugged, and said as long as no blood it's ok. They are the paediatric specialist at our surgery but admit this is because they don't have an actual area of special interest.

So, wise ones. Should I pursue this? Change formula brand again? Chill out?

Thank you. Thanks

Also, just to confirm, bottles being made up correctly, with correct powder to water ratio.

Are you using normal Aptamil? We used C+G but had khaki poos when we used the anti colic milk.

LurkingQuietly · 02/08/2018 17:31

We were using normal Aptamil and now using normal SMA pro.

My ten week old had green poo, and sometimes cried when trying to pass a motion. I was told green poo = belly ache in babies. Changed the milk.. yellow poo no crying when pooing Grin

WooYa · 02/08/2018 17:34

I think you need to chill out @LurkingQuietly in the nicest way possible Grin khaki green/dirty yellowish is quite normal for FF babies, I got told it's the iron in the formula and unless your DC is really struggling to poo then I'd leave them on SMA.

moose234 · 02/08/2018 17:36

I could have wrote this thread myself! I have a 6 week old! We also started in the apatmil we had a old formula tub to start with then when we went on the new one, if didn't mix right, we have been on Aldi mamia for 3 weeks now, and poo's have been normal until this Monday just gone, and are now khaki green!

LurkingQuietly · 02/08/2018 17:38

Yes @Freakedout89 I thought green poo in babies = tummy ache, but I didn't know if that was breastfed babies only.

Haha @WooYa I am more than happy to chill out about it, and to be fair I have up until now. The second lump of formed poo unsettled me today, I'll be honest. Plus DC3 has been as miserable as sin today - what joy!

Thanks everyone for responding!

Ds2 was combi fed from 8 weeks and had green play-doh like poos on SMA pro. Switched to c&g and they went back to normal.

LurkingQuietly · 02/08/2018 17:39

@moose234 we've had green poo since starting SMA. I thought I would have got over my need to discuss nappy contents by DC3! Grin

Ah really @TheHalfBloodPrincess ?? Interesting. I didn't go to cow and gate as I was so pissed off with Danone for Aptamil making DC3 poorly and grumpy. I may have to review this stance now though.

SMA gave my first dc weird green poo. Switched to c&g no green poo again for him or subsequent babies.

Chrisinthemorning · 02/08/2018 18:02

SMA made DS constipated- he was fine on C&G and his poos were the same as BF babies of the same age.

LurkingQuietly · 02/08/2018 18:16

So much for all formulas being broadly the same, eh?! Thanks all. All input is gratefully received.

@LurkingQuietly I've just been replying to another thread about formula in parenting as my DD had 3 weeks of diarrhoea on apitmal. I switched to apitmal pepti thought she had CMPA and decided to try her on hipp just to see and amazingly she's been doing great no diarrhoea whatsoever. Maybe hipp they do powder and readymade and you can order directly from the hipp website x

lovestea1 · 02/08/2018 19:00

Sorry should have wrote maybe try hipp x

LurkingQuietly · 04/08/2018 18:03

Thanks @lovestea1 - only just seen this. Done 36 hours on Cow and Gate...a yellow-ish poo! Definitely way more yellow than recently. And, she seems way more settled but that just may be my imagination. Thanks everyone.
