Problems after switching to Mamia from Aptamil? Or illness?

6 month old DS has been ill last week. Seems better now but sleep is awful and he is not happy generally. Less smiley, crying a lot unless walked around. He was up screaming last night and as with the last week of nights, there was an hour or so when he just wouldn't settle, not even in bed with me, not upright on me and would start feeding then scream. I realised that just before he got ill we had gradually swapped over from Aptamil to Mamia from Aldi. Now wondering if it's this that's the issue as he is just as unsettled now he's better. Anyone else? I don't want to keep switching about particularly as Aptamil have just changed thier formula but if it's the milk then obviously need to change.

Has this coincided with starting solids too OP?

Mortigua · 29/07/2018 16:48

Sort of although he had started and been ok a couple of weeks.

It's so difficult when they're not their usual selves isn't it?

Yes, could be his body feeling a bit different now he's digesting solids. Or could it be teeth? My 6mo has been super grumpy/unsettled the last few days and I found his first two teeth in his gums this morning!

He's got two teeth and maybe it could be the top ones coming in. I am used to him waking a lot but its the screaming and not being able to settle himSad
I've bought Aptamil but haven't yet started reintroducing it as he did have a nice long nap today which made me feel maybe I'd jumped the gun a bit and maybe it wasn't the milk after all but will see how tonight goes.

Ok, so how often are you offering solids and what sorts of things is he having?

Mortigua · 30/07/2018 06:54

Well last night he was hard to settle but ended up going 10pm-3am then quick bottle and back to bed till 6. I feel like a new woman!
With solids the whole thing got lost a bit while he was ill but generally a bit of porridge and/or fruit late morning then something at 6pm ish generally veg. Tried him with chicken a couple of days ago. Yesterday he'd actually had porridge at about 9pm (desperation as he was refusing a bottle).

Ok, so you don’t seem to be overfeeding him. When he was ill, was it D&V?

Mortigua · 30/07/2018 07:06

No it was viral thing, temp and seemed to be a sire throat. Tbh I'm feeling a bit behind with the food so that's good to hear!

Was just wondering over D&V as sometimes they can have a temporary milk intolerance afterwards.

You’re definitely not behind on Weaning, the NHS recommend moving to offering solids 3 times a day between 8 and 9 months. At 6 months, once a day or even twice is fine and it doesn’t have to be every day Smile

Ah ok thanks yes I'd heard that after illness but didn't realise it would just be d and v so that's good. He was on reflux meds till around a month or so ago so I was worried it had returned as he's been a bit more sicky. Also added in is I breastfeed at night mostly so could have also been something I ate although I don't think I'd had anything unusual. That's good with weaning. He's nit yet picking stuff up much so its v much just a taste although he does like porridge.
