Hello

I’m hoping someone here might be able to please help before I finally admit defeat and ring the gp.

I am exclusively pumping for my 6mo dc2, (introducing solids now actually, so not technically exclusively, but you know what I mean hopefully).

Last week (Thursday) after pumping in the evening, I got very, very itchy breasts. I then noticed some red marks on them, so assumed mastitis. I had it before when bfing dc1 and it felt similar, though this time I’ve felt a lot less flu-y. I had to pump a lot more (6 times a day) over the next few days to clear breasts. I’m now back to doing four pumps a day which is fine, but I keep getting very engorged, sometimes lumpy breasts. Today and yesterday they have also been itchy and aching again.

It just seems to have been going on a long time, (just over a week), so I was thinking of going to the gp. But I hate our gps. It’s a nightmare to get an appointment. I have two young children with me today and I really don’t want to go unless A) I have to and B) they can actually do something about it. So posting here.

Thanks for posting. I’m on antibiotics for mastitis. Glad I went to gps, though I really didn’t want to. I can’t say I’ve noticed any improvement just yet, but maybe a little. Hope they calm down!
