Nipple biting

Hi all

I need some help! Currently trying to breastfeed my 4.5 month old and she keeps biting. She has 2 very sharp teeth so when she bits it really hurts!! (Trying to not use explicit language!!)

We're on holiday at the moment and I forgot my pump. She's not great at taking bottles anyway but if we got formula and gave her that, I'm then going to be like rocks as can't express...

Any ideas, words of wisdom?!

Thanks x

If you keep your little finger in the corner of their mouth then unlatch when they bite, this seemed to help with us, especially when he was too young to be asked not to. Eventually he stopped at that point. Although when he was a bit older he found it funny when I said ouch.

I found lots of praise and back stroking when feeding nicely and not biting worked best for me. This also meant I was paying attention enough to notice when dd was bored and thinking about biting as well so I could stop the feed in time.

I feel your pain. By 8.5 months my son had 6 very sharp little teeth. I went back to work when he was 6 months so he had started taking a bottle. The last time we breastfed wasn’t really the ending I wanted, he bit bloody hard and drew blood, and that was the end of that. My mum breastfed all 6 of her children to a year but also stopped when teeth came through.

Something that did help however was really paying attention to the feed and looking at whether he was feeding or messing. I also pulled him off the breast and said no stirnly, but I don’t think that’ll wash with a 4.5month old.

Thanks!

I've tried put my finger in the corner off her mouth but she's got such a tight suck I can never get my finger in properly! She'd stay attached the entire if she could.

I'll try the praise! When she bits I do say no and ouch but she just looks at me, smiles and giggles! She's a wee monster.

We're back home now so going to try and get her onto a bottle which is another dilemma all together! Lol
