Hello mums,

First time on mumsnet but I heard it's the best, I just need some help/advice about my DS who is 9+5 weeks old. For the last 2 weeks he's been putting on weight and drinking aptamil 4-5oz every 4-5hours which is great! but for the last 3days during the night he's only drinking 2oz every 2-3hours and during the day it's between 2/4oz depending on how he feels. Very rarely finishing a bottle, my next weigh in is Thursday.

I try to keep him awake at night but he falls back asleep and doesn't want the rest. Why is this change in feeding, has anyone else had it? 😞

He seems happy still just a bit more crying because he's getting hungry more frequently. And the cry sounds like he's In pain when hes during a bottle.

Thankyou mums xxx

Hello and welcome to MN Smile. There has been a few posters recently who are having trouble with Aptamil and Cow & Gate, apparently they’ve changed the balance between Casien and whey.

I’d switch to another formula like Aldi’s or Hipp Organic and see how you get on with that instead.

Could he be adjusting his feeds in prep for sleeping through? My 8 nearly 9 week old did this a couple of weeks ago and eventually dropped the small night feeds and took bigger during the day and now goes through from 11-7 at night. He was just falling asleep during night feeds and eventually just refused them so I just stopped offering them and he started taking more in the day, he now takes 4 normal feeds and 2 smaller between 7am and 11pm about every 3 hours. Also I changed him from aptamil to hipp as he had awful colic and aptamil didn't agree with him and he's much more settled.

Also if you work out the daily amount rather than per feed you may find if he's taking less but more frequently it still amounts the same, with the hot weather my baby has been taking smaller feeds more often in the day the past couple of days I think they're more thirsty but don't always want a full bottle
