So ds was 9mo yesterday. With this hot weather he has been waking every 40min to 1 hour for atleast a week and wont settle without the boob. This morning he has an orange stain in his nappy which i am guesding is urates from dehydration. What can i do. He wont drink barely any water. Its 29c in his bed at night with a ceiling fan on

Do you have a car with air con? Go for a drive and see if he goes off into a deeper sleep?

Jellybabie3 · 08/07/2018 21:27

Really good point, I will up my fluids and see if that helps.

I do drive yes. That would work great for naps, I may try tomorrow, but hes one of those babies that wakes shortly after you move him so I would never get him back in his cot. Hes a little pickle Hmm thanks though !

Yes a damp towel and he will be damp too, so then the water will evapourate in the heat and cool him down. (He will be dry in an hour, but then off to sleep) You can put in under or over him, but given he is little, under is probably safer. For everyone else, its a good tip for older dc and adults too. My DH grew up in Hong Kong with no ac and that is how they got to sleep as children

So tired 😴

I'm awake too OP. Also struggling in the heat however my DS (18m) is snoring away has been since 8pm while I'm just laying here whilst it's starting to get light already 😐 it's so hard when they're little and you're tired. Keep going you're doing great Thanks

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 09/07/2018 04:19

Well, I'm awake an hour later than yesterday, possibly because I went to bed an hour later.

Jellybabie3 · 09/07/2018 06:34

Well we are up. He woke every 40-60min. All he wanted was the boob. I think we now have a bad sleep association courtesy of this heat Angry his nappy looks OL this morning though.

@PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks oh dear that is super early.

Fx it cools a little to set our babies back on track. It must be so confusing and uncomfortable for them. It really doesn't suprise me they wake so often. Just wish there was something I could do to make him more comfortable (as opposed to the boob)

I'm off for some coffee ☕

Thanks for your tips to rehydrate. Much happier with that this morn. He is full of beans. I will pick up some more fruit and maybe have a go with the paddling pool today.

Will consider the wet towel too as long as it wont ruin the mattress!!

Oh JellieBabie that is so hot 😞 poor you and baby. The cooling mats you buy for dogs are really good! You could put it in the cot?

Jellybabie3 · 09/07/2018 07:07

Ooooo that is a good idea!

Think i will nip out and get the tommee tippee cup today. He seems to not mind the ikea one (few sips) but i cant see anything that suggests its a good dentist approved one. Wierd shaped spout ! Paranoid mum Grin

We have the tommee tippee one. He will drink quite a bit from it after meals. Also been giving ice poles but he gets so upset when he finishes and I can't take the bottom lip going 😞

steppemum · 09/07/2018 09:09

from a parent who used to live in a hot country:

put them down to sleep in just a nappy. No vest or sleeping bag, however light.

I would be very careful with wet towels and cooling mats for babies.

Move the cot to the coolest room in the house.

miserable for both of you though Flowers (or maybe Brew would be more helpful!)

Jellybabie3 · 09/07/2018 09:57

Ok great thank you. I think for £1.30 (asda) that cup may well be worth a punt. The last thing i want is for him to be poorly.

It was cloudy here first thing so I have managed to get a bit of cool air in. All windows open whilst the sun isnt round. I will draw up the curtains when it does. Hes gone down for his nap beautifully, chatting away to himself, and is still down 1hr 30 later so it really is this heat at night messing him about.

We will have some fun later in the pool and make some fruity pops. Make the best of what we have! Its so beautiful out I dont want to feel down about it! I only have the summer with him before returning to work. And who doesnt love all the extra baby cuddles (albeit sweaty ones)

Nothing a few coffees (decaf after the first naturally....) Cant fix. Powering through........

Jelly you’re doing an amazing job getting up so frequently to meet his needs and worrying about him, getting cups and paddling pools etc when shattered. Good mumming! You going back PT or FT?

Jellybabie3 · 10/07/2018 21:55

Part time I think.... I had planned to go back full time but i just cant bear to leave him. I then said 4 days....and now 3. Its a massive financial difference but I know I wont get this time back.

Incidentally, its dropped to 26C im his room tonight so getting better. And we are having some success with getting water in him. Although hes now teething haha. So probably not more sleep for me but I am so pleased we are moving away from the dehydration. Scared me to death seeing the brick dust coloured nappy 😞

Thanks for your kind words and support
