Formula issue?

Does anyone have any experience switching fro breast to formula?
My DD (now 4 weeks + 5) switch just over a week ago and she is having terrible stomach cramps. She is struggling to poo and when she has it's been watery.
She is wincing in her sleep and crying a lot when awake. Is anyone familiar with this experience? I've tried all the suggested ways to help her poo (cycle legs, massage, water etc)

What has the HV said REK? Are you using a perfect prep machine? Is the formula Cow & Gate or Aptamil?

sleepytiger · 04/07/2018 07:18

Is it the readymade formula? That is meant to be easier to digest

StillMissV · 04/07/2018 07:21

A couple of my friends have had similar issues, I think it's because breastmilk is easier to digest so it takes a while for their system to get used to it. Do you still have breast milk? Could you combi feed and phase it out so it's a slower transition?

@JiltedJohnsJulie it's SMA and we've been advised against using a prep machine by HV & MW

Dont go straight to powder. It binds them up. Use ready made formula as easier to digest. Then gradually wean onto powder. Lots of bicycle legs for a bit.

Agree with Zephyr I’d try ready made for a bit, it seems a bit gentler on tiny tummies.

The reason I asked about SMA or Aptamil is that the board seems to be full of babies on Aptamil or SMA who are really struggling this week.

I’d try ready made for a couple of days but avoid those 2 brands which are both made in the same factory,

Lots of people seem to be switching to Hipp Organic without a problem Smile

FYI HiPP Organic are having a shortage of ready made 1st infant formula. Best to buy directly off their website however they also warn about a delay here as well... no idea how long but probably get your request in ASAP. I think the powder is ok to buy from the shops. X

Try a comfort milk. Sorted DS right out.

I don't see why prep machine is relevant - it's just a means of heating water.

REK2018 · 06/07/2018 09:51

@FartnissEverbeans thanks - I've been told Comfort Milk can make them constipated did you experience that?

OP posts:
FartnissEverbeans · 06/07/2018 13:47

No, the opposite. We used it to treat constipation! It sorted him right out and he would get bunged up as soon as we tried any other formula. We used it from about a month to one year.

FartnissEverbeans · 06/07/2018 13:47

We were advised to use it by our paediatrician.

REK2018 · 06/07/2018 18:14

@FartnissEverbeans is Comfort Milk by Hipp Organic?

REK2018 · 07/07/2018 05:37

@FartnissEverbeans I just saw online that most brands make comfort milk. She is on SMA so will try their comfort milk.

@REK2018 - we used Aptamil but if you're using SMA then you're probably right to stick with that. Good luck, I hope it helps!
