Another low-weight gain bf DS....

I didn't want to hijack a previous low weight bf baby thread, but wanted some feedback on DS2.

DS2 is very low-weight. I have been EBF him, but have been very unsure about my supply.

I saw a GP who told me he was FTT, but a ped told me he was just small (10% weight, height and head circumference (this was in Australia, I don't think they do head circumference routinely here in UK?)).

I took him to the health visitor on Wednesday and she asked me how I thought my supply was, and I told her I thought I wasn't producing enough - my breasts never feel full, and when I pump I produce hardly any. It also seems like he sleeps a lot.

So we are going to try bottle feeding him from now on.

Since he's been on the bottle he has been a lot more alert and seems happier.

Now the issue is that he is only taking about 3 ounces every 3 hours.

How can I get him to take more?

you cant really get him to take more than he wants. What age is your lo? 3oz every 3 hours doesnt sound too bad to me. The 'rule of thumb' is 2.5 oz per lb of body weight e.g. a 10lb baby may take around 25oz of milk per 24hrs (2.5 x 10). Of course some babies may take more or less than this.

He is around six months (nearly a month early so adjusted around 5.5).

Based on your 2.5 ounces per lb he should be having around an extra ounce per feed.

Hopefully as he realises the ff is pretty much all he's going to get he'll get hungrier and have more.

Thx
