6 months still feeding every hour and a half

Is this normal?

Ebf

She’s always fed every hour and a half or less in the day, since about 8 weeks. The length of the feed can vary between 5 and 40 minutes, sometimes feeding to sleep. Weaning atm and this hasn’t changed her feeding pattern.

Am I not producing enough milk or is this just the way she is? No issue at night, very lucky as she sleeps 10-12 hours

I think it can be pretty normal. I know some who do this around the clock so at least your DD sleeps. What makes you think you aren’t producing enough milk OP? I’m assuming she’s meeting her milestones, is putting on weight and is bright and alert at times?

In my experience, hungry babies don’t give hunger cues every 1.5 hours in the day, they just sleep.

Sounds like she's in the habit of snacking continually on your boob! Can you try and eke out the time between feeds - even if it's just by 5 minutes for a couple of days and then an extra 5 minutes the next couple of days and so on? Just an idea...

That's your answer imo. Seems like a good trade off to me.

Likely she will stretch longer as solids become more eatablished.

Totally agree with Half Smile

She's sleeping so long overnight she needs to feed often during the day. Seems completely normal from my experience. DS2 (9mo) still wakes twice a night for a feed, so the gaps between his feeds are longer.

If baby is healthy you can start introducing foods, it'll probably encourage her to go longer between breastfeeding.

pandamodium · 02/07/2018 07:40

I didn't EBF but DS was early so we had to stick to a really strict food schedule to get his weight up.

It was really hard going so I just wanted to sympathise with you. It won't be forever.

Cineraria · 02/07/2018 07:40

I agree with those who say she needs to feed more frequently in the day to go longer at night but also it's hot at the moment and she might be getting thirsty quite often too.

hidinginthenightgarden · 02/07/2018 08:03

Are you feeding on demand? I thought I was but actually I was pre-empting what time he would need a feed and offering it, to which he never said no.
When I actually fed on demand, he starting stretching the time between feeds a bit more.

Ratbagratty · 02/07/2018 08:09

My almost 6 month old feeds that amount during day and every 3 hrs overnight. It's hot here so I'm thinking of it in terms of food AND drink for her. So could this be the same for you?
