Formula or expressed milk as one off?

EBF 11 week old, we’ve not tried a bottle yet and I don’t have any plans but occasionally the idea of the freedom popping out briefly and leaving DD with DH sounds like it could be nice occasionally

I know most people in this situation express a bottle to leave with partner/whoever is looking after baby

Just curious but is there any harm in using formula as a one off on these occasions? Buying a couple of ready made bottles sounds appealing for this sort of thing

I can’t see it affecting supply as you need to express in advance (although do understand why you might need to pump at the actual time the feed is missed)

Will baby become formula junkie or is it safe to do?

My baby has been combi fed since 2 weeks (my choice as I wanted to breastfeed without pressure and so my DH could help). My baby is now nearly 4 months, roughly 75% of his daily feeds is a breastfeed but happily takes a bottle of formula in the evening. I did this with my first DC too. I don't believe giving some formula is bad for breastfeeding at all. Takes the pressure off you too, best of both worlds in my opinion.

I agree with everything @Outnumbered1225 said. I sometimes express, sometimes have a bottle of formula handy and mainly breastfeed. And I have a very happy 8 week old!

For occasional use I would just use formula, also means that you don't have to plan it. As you said if you are out a while you will need to express.

The ready made bottles of formula are great for out and about because they don't need refrigeration, won't spill, can be fed at room temperature etc

If you can express, it doesn't do any harm to keep a few pouches in the freezer but they aren't as portable and need defrosting (which can be done quickly by putting the pouch in a jug of hot water)

No harm at all in using some formula, although probably worth expressing some for the freezer if you can so you have options if you're ill or something.

We combi-fed from five days (my milk didn't come in properly for ages, then we did 50/50 bf/ff) for first year and I'm still BFing my 2.5 year old - worked well for us, and it was great being able to take a break and leave her with DH.
Good luck!

My DS has about one bottle a week these days and we just have the ready made formula in- I stopped expressing about 6mo as I wasn't getting so much and we were weaning.

He's happy with it apart from bedtime. (One next week, (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek))
