Gaviscon for silent reflux baby

Ok so my chilled 4 week old has been having a terrible time with feeding. Doctor has diagnosed him with silent reflux and we tried him on carobel. It went terribly and had to take him off that and back to the doctors. I have now been given gaviscon for him and will be giving it a whirl tonight. Does anyone have any reviews of gaviscon? Did it cause constipation etc? Any joy with using it? Also do I need bigger bottle teet size? (He uses size one on tommee tipee)
Thank you x

If your baby has silent reflux surely he isn’t being sick? Gaviscon as an infant medicine thickens the contents of the stomach to prevent sickness. Therefore I’m not sure this will help you. Ranitidine is the alternative and neutralises the acid in the stomach, therefore it is not painful when the acid comes up out of the stomach. Ranitidine will not prevent sickness. I’m guessing you’d be better with ranitidine than gaviscon

My son was started on gavison at 4 weeks too and it didn't make much difference to his reflux and yes it made him v constipated. The GP prescribed ranitadine at 6 weeks old which took about 10 days to work but made a huge difference in his symptoms. Don't be afraid to ask for proper medication for reflux if the gaviscon doesn't help. Reflux is horrible for baby and parents!

I wouldn't go for a bigger teat. The gaviscon only thickens the milk a little and your baby would probably find the flow too fast with a larger teat

I agree with the pp about ranitidine instead of gaviscon. You need something that will stop the acid.

Gaviscon really helped our DS with his silent reflux but he was 6 months when it started. It stopped the acid moving back up whilst he was lying down.

Hey there! My bub was the exact same, we were prescribed omeprazol which has worked wonders! He takes one tablet a day x
