Colic relief - Please help!!!

My bottle fed ds is 9 weeks old and suffering from colic. At the beginning it didn't seem too bad but it got worst in the last 2 weeks. She was on SMA to start with and she was always very constipated.I also used to give her Infacol before every feed. When colic got bad I changed to Apatamil and she started filling the nappies more often and with no hassle, which I thought it was due to the new milk. However, after 3 days she still suffered from bad tummy pain so I dropped the Infacol and started on Colief. She burps everytime I wind her but she seems to be sick every time after her feed and she is still is very windy. Can this be caused by Colief? Shall I go back to Infacol? Please help!!!

Thanks Octo and Ettenna. I haven't had a very good day. My DD was inconsolable all day long. I suppose it was wind... However, I did not put Colief drops in her milk this last feed and she had the whole bottle, 140ml, and hasn't been sick once or had tummy ache so not touching "the stuff" again! I really appreciate your replies. Thanks again x

My DD had colic and I feel for you as it is hideous. Have you tried Dr Browns bottles - available from Boots, quite expensive compared to Avent but have a special valve that helps reduce the amount of air that gets into the bottle and then the baby....not recommended that they go in the dishwasher but I cracked and put mine in a basket on the top shelf with no ill effect

Also I swear by our local Cranial Oestopath...not my usual stance I am not alternative by any stretch of the imagination but I was desperate and it worked after 1 session. Very slight manipulations on the head and DD spent the entire afternoon burping and trumping and things were greatly improved from then on.

Try it all there is something that will work and it is hard on everyone so better to find a solution

Forgot to mention I also tried gripe water...but DD hated the taste and even at her tender age refused it...can't say I blame her

it does sound like reflux to me too
is she happier sleeping upright?
you can get baby gaviscon from the doctor, so don't hesitate if you think it might help. there's plenty of people on here who can help so keep this bumped.

it will get better so hang on in there, i know it's hard.

p.s. dr brown's bottles are very very good. much better than Avent. Aptamil also much better than SMA.

Hmmmm, could be reflux or milk intolerance, but wouldn't diagnose either just on the basis of what you've said. Is he only sick just after a feed, or a long time afterwards? Is he miserable a lot? Is he happier if you hold him upright all the time?

i must admit that it does sound like reflux to me as well - dd had reflux and also suffered from silent reflux - where it is swallowed. the best way to tell, well thinkof it like this - how does your breath smell (sorry!) when you've been sick? if the doc says (like mine did) they're putting on weight then turn round and tell him how "wtf? (well, maybe not) would you feel if you've been sick???

infacol didn't work for dd either, colief did for a while but v.expensive for size. ended up on infant gaviscon - wish i'd heard about c.o. though.

please also try cranial osteopathy,i've heard lots of goodthings about it and it may well be the thing that works for your ds.

my thoughts are with you xxx

Also rembered that when DD was crying and we couldn't console her we put her into DS old floor rocker chair thingie...not sure of the correct term and as DS had 'moulded' his shape into it previously she was almost suspended and wasn't able to roll out, anyway we were besides her so she wasn't going anywhere that seemed to calm DD down and help with the colic....hope this is making vague sense and will keep posting as I remember what we did!

thanks to all of you for your kind replies. Today it's been heaven!
As I said previously I have sttoped given her Colief and God what a difference! It was supose to be good and I was so desperate that I thought I give it a go... BIG MISTAKE! It made her very poorly!She hasn't been sick once today and she's burped and passed wind all day long!
She had her 2nd treatment with the cranial osteopath yesterday so that would have helped as well.
Smurffs I got some Dr Brown bottles today. I will give it a go and DD doesn't like gripe water either.
She is definitely better when she sleeps upright and the swing chair has now become "The Magic Chair".
Califrau, thanks for your suggestion. I will try the sugar in warm water!
Fransmom, I know what you are saying about the doctors. My GP and HV are not helping much. They said "most babies are sick and as long as she puts weight on, she is fine"

Try weak fennel tea. You may need to be a little sneaky (give it before, during or after depending on when you can get them to drink it without realising too quickly) as they don't always like the taste but I have found it worked with my ds2.
