6 months+ formula

I'm gradually stopping BF and moving over to formula. DD is 6 months and 1 week. I was using Aptamil stage 1 for the 2 feeds a day that she has formula but now DD is over 6 mnths I changed over to stage 3 (6 months + milk with extra iron). DD really seems to hate it and screams blue murder during feed and almost exactly 3.5 hours after a feed of stage 3 (but not after a feed of stage 1).

Can I just keep using stage 1 or should I really try with the "6 months +" milk and, for example, try different brands? We're trying BLW so there might be an issue with how much iron she's getting from solids...

Go back to the Stage 1 . It is fine until a year and the additional iron in follow-on isn't readily digestible anyway.

my hv told me theres no need to use anything other than the second stage milk! i was concerned and continued up the stages my dd now on cow and gate growing up milk! you could try other milk if thats what you feels she needs i have always used c&g apart from first 6weeks when i bf, most milks do the small tetra packs these might be more cost effective whilst you trialling it! whenever going up to next stage i start doing one day one milk next day next stage etc hoping this helps

iron stores start to deplete at 6 months, not run out! stage 1 milk is fine, and easier to digest....

My hv recommended introducing the next stage gradually, replacing one feed a day with the next stage, next day 2 feeds, then 3 and so on. But I would stay on the stage one if you feel that is enough for her and she is not looking for her bottle every hour.

Thanks all! She actually seems happier to go longer (up to 4 hours) between feeds on stage 1 than stage 3.

back to the shops for more stage 1 tomorrow then - thank goodness I've still got the norks for the first thing in the morning feed - and the middle of the night if she decides she's thirsty tonight!
