Expressing milk - 3 different pumps but nothing’s coming!

I’m currently EBF my 8 week old and I’m struggling to express milk. At the start I’d always get 3oz from my right and almost nothing from my left. I also hate that my right boob is massive compared to my left Sad why does it produce so much more? I have one of those silicone suction things which is great if I’m engorged and a Closer to Nature manual pump but I’ve just bought the Lansinoh single electric one. I’ve been sat here 20 minutes and nothing! I drink litres of water I just don’t know why they feel so empty. My baby has fed almost constantly today but it makes no real difference, I’ve just never gotten much milk out with a pump. People say to pump in the morning but he’s up from 4-5 and feeds continuously! Please help

To me it sounds like your baby is an effective feeder, he’s draining the breasts well.

Try not to worry about how much you’re expressing, whatever you can get is a good start for building up a stock.
I always had one boob bigger than the other, my DS just preferred the right.
It soon evened out when I stopped breastfeeding.

Do you only express in the day?
Try evenings too

HeavyMetalMama · 17/05/2018 14:04

@wetwashing00 he is! Took him a while but leeened a good latch, he feeds very often too. I only get to pump in the evening when he’s gone down for his sleep but if he naps in the day I end up with loads!

Also sounds like your supply is settling down.

I can't pump anything like as much as I could for the first 3 mo of DS life and our freezer stash for the afternoon I tutor has gone. He's having a bottle of formula a week, maybe two

arbrighton · 17/05/2018 20:57

Oh and if you keep pumping from your right, you'll keep producing more!

Only pump what you need to from it for comfort if you don't want to stimulate supply

Currently pumping in the day as baby sleeps and it’s much better! He’d been feeding constantly to build my supply (he’s gained a lb in a week) so I’m doing better. Want to make up a couple of bottles as we’ve got a lon journey and day out tomorrow

Hi, I did some Google and came across this site babycared.com/how-to-store-breast-milk/ it covers everything you are asking. Hope that helps

Yes, it sounds as if your supply is more in tune with your baby’s needs.

If one breast is bigger than the other, have a read of this on kellymom Smile
