Quick question re: small worry...

Ds (five weeks) has had a cold, and only had two feeds today, one at eleven (one boob, about half an hour) and one at two (two boobs, about an hour and a half all in all).

He's been really sleepy as a result of the cold. It's now ten past five, should I wake him again to make sure he's getting enough, or just let him sleep, so he sleeps off his cold?

i used to bf my sleeping baby! will he go back to sleep if so yes wake him if not he will wake when he wants feeding

Mossie · 17/05/2007 17:15

He probably wouldn't go back to sleep, and he doesn't latch on properly when he's sleepy, so I will let him wake to feed then if that sounds okay at five weeks.

Wake him soon. Would n't let him go more than 3-4 hours yet tbh, especially if he is below par, and be prepared for a (more than usual , perhaps )disturbed night.

I don't think I'd have woken mine at 5 weeks, but they both slept around 8 hours by that age so I was used to letting them have a longer gap between feeds.
Do what feels right for you. Hope he's feeling better soon

Well... dh wanted to pick him up and have a play, so he's now woken anyway! He doesn't look hungry (not rooting, or eating his hands) but I'm going to try and feed him anyhow.
