4 day old with trapped wind?

He's screamed almost constantly since 4pm. Keeps pulling his legs up and is only happy when I'm bouncing him in the air.
What can I do? He doesn't really want to feed and he's absolutley knackered

Cycle his legs. Wind him. Keep him upright.

I've been trying to wind him for hours but he's really struggling to break any wind

Warm bath? Might relax him and encourage the wind down (and out!).

My eldest had gut issues, so I know your pain (and your poor son's!). The things that worked best for us were using our flat hand/fingers to draw a rainbow shape from left to right on her tummy. With a sight pessure, but not heavy at all as theyre so tiny, this seemed to shift the trapped wind to the right place. Then I'd cycle her legs a few times and then stroke in a rainbow arch again. Then finally holding her ankles I'd gently push her knees up onto her tummy into a foetal position to let the gas out.

It worked more often than not.

If it is just trapped wind, hopefully motion will shift it and hopefully it's just a one off for him this time.

Put him on your shoulder, sort of facing you, and walk up and down the stairs. I don't know why or how but it worked with mine.

If he was a little older then I would suggest sitting him on your knee facing away from you and then doing chicken wing motions up and down with his arms. Again I don't know why but it works!

We used to cycle legs and we also would gently push the two legs up together towards the tummy to help squeeze out trapped wind. Massage helped too. There are videos on YouTube that'll show you the correct movements.

Another thing that we found helped was putting baby between our legs with their wee legs hanging down and supporting their head and chin in one hand and rubbing their back with the other. This really helped bring up wee burps with my two.

We tried loads of drops and things but the only ones that worked for us were colief. We got it through minor ailments as it's very expensive.

Tummy massage works well.. search for the I love you massage it's great for helping wind to pass through and down

Perhaps gripe water could be useful, I'm using one called Gasodex.

Oh god, I remember this with DS- alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll night for one night as he worked through from meconium to BM poo.

We just took it in turns to hold him, rock/ burp etc while the other got some sleep.

I found the best way to wind DD was to have her resting face down on my forearm, so head in my hand and bum by elbow and gently rub her back. Nothing else got wind up for her.

Also is baby bottle or breast fed? Some foods you eat can affect baby if breastfed. I couldn't eat asparagus or broccoli for 3 years!

Couldn't do that hold with DS glen as he was 8lb9 born and put on a pound a week for about the first 6 weeks!

Have to admit infacol helped dramatically with wind later on. DS was/ is BF but plentiful supply/ fast let down meant gulping/ shallow latch so taking in air.

Oh, and the occasional projectile vomit (sadly that still occurs now, at 11 mo when he has a cold)
