My baby girl is 6 1/2 months... so far I have just been feeding her purée food. However, I am hearing so much about how baby led wearing and babies should be given solids from the very beginning to learn how to feed themselves. This scares me because I have a huge phobia of choking! Iv had it for a long time before having my baby but now it's even worse Confused can anyone give me any tips please? How to start, foods etc... thanks :)

Baby led Weaning is when you don’t do purees and you give the baby the food and let them eat it themselves. So instead of giving say mashed banana, you’d just give the banana and let them munch on it.

What I think you’re talking about though is offering finger foods along with purees? I’ve weaned one this way and by 6 months he was munching on things like toast with smooth nut butter, cheese on toast etc as well as having purees from us.

If the choking thing is such a concern, have you done a Oaediatric First Aid Course? Unfortunately OP, feeding exclusively purees doesn’t not mean your baby won’t choke, just like offering finger foods mean they will.
