7month old will not eat lumpy food

I started weaning just shy of 6months due to lo bad reflux. We do a mix of purée and blw. However since starting when given finger food he will put it in his mouth but then spits out any food. I wasn't concerned as it was more to get him use to eating but now he is 7months o am moving from purée to lumpy food and he isn't having any of it. Today he gagged so hard he projectile vomited everywhere! I don't want to go back to purée food but how do I get him to swallow lumpy food - at a loss! Any help or advice would be really appreciated.

Why don't you want him to have puree? He's clearly not ready. Just go at his pace not your own.

I agree with what @april45 said. It doesn’t sound like he’s ready. If he’s enjoying the puréed food then why not stick with that? What’s your hv said about it?

Don't worry about it, he'll eat it when he's ready.
My daughter hated lumpy food too. She kind of bypassed it and went from smooth food to finger food. She ate lumpy food from maybe 12 months but didn't love it and spat bits out still. She's now 18 months and eats most things.

There is no rush just give puree

Would add my daughter had bad reflux too, not sure if that influenced things.
I think with the lumps it's the unexpected nature of it - they can't tell when a lumps going to appear whereas with finger food they are in control iyswim.

My daughter is nearly two and will eat normal food eg fish fingers and smooth food eg mashed potato but she hates lumpy foods. I mentioned it to her dietician (she has an allergy) about a year ago and she said to just keep offering food with lumps in but to not worry. Eventually she'll get used to it. Just go with it.

You're just moving too fast. 7 months is very young. Puréed food is absolutely fine for 7 months and for the next few months. Your child is not ready for lumps, their body is telling you so.
