She's grinding her teething against my nipple!

DD2 is 10mo. She's got 8 teeth, and currently teething with 9 & 10 (molars). She's REALLY struggling with them, her gums are so bruised and swollen looking.

She's also really congested, not sure whether it's a cold or a symptom of teething.

Both of these things combined together has made her feeding a nightmare. She won't latch deeply, her latch is weak and so loads of air is consumed, but worst of all she's grinding her bottom teeth against the base of my nipple as she feeds 😩

She only feeds at bedtime, and during the night, and 90% of the time she'll fall asleep. I wouldn't say it's biting, she's not clamping down, it's just a constant grind/pressure which is giving me open wounds.

I'm about ready to pack it in

I complained about something similar to my mum and she said if he bites say NO and take him off the nipple.. he'll get the idea. Good luck :)

honestly just pack it in, she is 10 months old. You have done well feeding her yourself for so long.
Once they have teeth, it's pretty much a sign that breastfeeding has reached its natural end, IMO. Unless you are one of those martyr mothers who breastfeeds til they are three. Imagine the state of their nips.

Oh I so feel for you. I bf all of mine to 10months and then the biting starting. And bf stopped. I just couldn't do it anymore.

Had wanted to do a year but am happy I got to 10 months.

Four I agree with you on it being a natural end point.

When they bite don’t pull them back - pull them in so they have to release to take a breath.

She's not biting, it's more her latch which is rubbish which is causing her teeth to kind of dig in.

@FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast I have to disagree with you on that one, both my DDs got teeth at 4 months on. I fed DD1 until she was 2, she never bit me once.

I do think it's kind of naturally running its course as it's only night time I'm feeding her now, although during the night she still very much relies on it and is a dinky 10mo so I worry about cutting her calories back.

I've been applying Lanisoh in the hopes of healing, it's only really one side but it's so sore so think I'll just feed off the other side for a day or 2 and express if need be
