Recurrent blocked duct

I keep getting a blocked duct in my left boob. DD is 12 wks and I must have had this one blocked about 5 or 6 times. She unblocked it for me today with a different feeding position but it was blo*dy sore. I bought new bras a month or so as I thought it could be that. It's exactly where the seams all join but since the bra fits I find it hard to believe it's that. Could it be that she latches differently on the left side? I can't see (or feel) anything wrong with the latch.

I had one blocked duct the entire year feeding DS so this is all new to me!

I am no expert but I would think it's the latch. I know that DS latches worse on my right boob and I have had a blocked duct twice, mastitis once and soreness all the way through on the right, no probs on the left. I do keep trying to correct it but it's not worked yet (I live in hope!)

Can you favour that one and make sure your DD really empties the breast? That will make a massive difference. I had the same problem at about ten weeks and spent an entire evening nursing on one side and it just magically disappeared by the next day.

Hi suzi2. Are you familiar with kellymom.com . It is full of really good information about breastfeeding. I had trouble with blocked ducts and I reckon it was caused by an ill fitting nursing bra (boobs just kept getting bigger and bigger!) and sleeping on my side as it was the side I lay on which always got blocked. If you could try feeding your dd in different positions to drain the breast, that might help too. Also be on the look out for maybe a bag or baby carrier or something which could be putting pressure on the area without you realising. You don't want this turning into mastitis, so please try some of the advice asap.

If it's by the seam I'd be tempted to blame the bra

Thanks everyone. Got it unblocked but still none the wiser about why it keeps happening. It's exacyly where the seams are but it's a different size and make of bra to the one I was wearing a few weeks ago. I'm going to try my mums suggestion of getting a bigger size and wearing a breastpad so the seams don't touch me and see if that helps
